Copper Care Instructions

Important Notes Before Cleaning

  • Lemon + salt is safe and effective for plain copper (the citric acid dissolves tarnish, salt adds gentle abrasion).

  • It's natural & non-toxic, but avoid if your pieces have gemstones (e.g., turquoise, pearls, opals) — acid can damage softer stones.

  • For intricate handmade designs, be extra gentle to avoid scratching fine details.

  • If you love the natural patina, clean sparingly (just wipe with a soft cloth) or skip deep cleans altogether.

  • Always test on a small, hidden area first.

Lemon + Salt Cleaning Method (For Bright Shine)

There are two easy ways — pick whichever feels simplest!

Option 1: The Classic "Lemon Wedge" Scrub (Quick & tactile — great for small pieces)

  1. Cut a fresh lemon in half.

  2. Sprinkle a generous pinch of table salt (coarse works best) onto the cut side — it creates a natural abrasive "sponge".

  3. Gently rub the salted lemon over your jewellery in circular motions. Focus on tarnished spots; you'll see the shine return almost instantly!

  4. For stubborn areas, let it sit 1–2 minutes, then rub again.

  5. Rinse thoroughly under cool/room-temperature running water (hot water speeds up future tarnish).

  6. Pat dry immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth (microfiber is perfect) — buff gently to polish.

  7. Let air-dry completely before wearing or storing.

Option 2: The Soak & Paste Method (For heavier tarnish)

  1. In a small bowl, mix equal parts fresh lemon juice + salt (e.g., 1 tbsp each) to form a loose paste. Add a splash of water if too thick.

  2. Apply the paste to your jewellery with fingers or a soft cloth/toothbrush.

  3. Let it sit 5–15 minutes (up to 30–60 for very dark tarnish — don't leave overnight).

  4. Gently scrub with a soft toothbrush if needed (especially crevices).

  5. Rinse well under cool water.

  6. Dry & buff with a soft cloth.

Frequency: Clean every 1–4 weeks depending on wear (more often if you want constant shine). Daily wear + skin oils speed tarnish, but also "season" the piece naturally.Everyday Care Tips to Keep It Beautiful Longer

  • Wipe after each wear with a soft dry cloth to remove oils, sweat & lotions.

  • Avoid: Swimming pools, hot tubs, saltwater, chlorine, perfumes/lotions/hairspray (apply these first), harsh chemicals.

  • Store in a dry place — use airtight pouches, anti-tarnish strips, or silica packets to slow oxidation.

  • If you want permanent shine, consider a jeweller applying a clear protective coating (like lacquer or ProtectaClear) — but this changes the natural feel.

Your handmade copper pieces are special — they evolve with you! If you embrace the patina, it tells a story; if you love the glow, this lemon magic keeps it radiant.
